Understanding the basics of customs clearance and transit in Cameroon.
SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) is mandated by the Cameroonian government to verify the compliance and value of imported goods. Any import with an FOB value exceeding 2 million CFA francs is subject to a pre-shipment inspection (Import Verification Programme — IVP).
This inspection ensures products meet Cameroonian standards and prevents customs undervaluation. Non-compliance results in penalties and hold-ups at the port of Douala. Green Logistics manages this entire procedure on your behalf.
To import into Cameroon, the formalities include:
- 1.Obtaining an import licence from the Ministry of Trade
- 2.Banking domiciliation of the transaction at an authorised bank
- 3.SGS inspection if the value exceeds the threshold
- 4.Filing the customs declaration via SYDONIA with required documents (commercial invoice, packing list, Bill of Lading or Air Waybill, certificate of origin, SGS inspection certificate)
